Xavier Musketeers

Xavier University is a member of the Big East Conference and is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Musketeers Strength and Conditioning program is led by their 'outstanding'  Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Matt Jennings. Matt was a center on the North Carolina Tar Heels football team in the early 1990's.  Interestingly, he coaches at a University that their sports program no longer includes the sport of football. Matt has brought his leadership, toughness and sense of purpose to Xavier to the good fortune of their athletic program.

Xavier recently upgraded their strength and conditiong facility to Get even Stonger.

'Go West, Young Man, Go West'

West Virginia football started in 1891, since then they have accumulated a 727–482–45 record and rank 14th in victories among NCAA FBS programs. They have a rich tradition in coaching from Clarence Spears, Art "Pappy" Lewis, Bobby Bowden, Don Nehlen, Rich Rodriguez and Dana Holgorsen. The Mountaineer's are known for their quickness, overall team speed and hard play, much of which can be attributed to their 'Master' Strength and Conditioning Director, Mike Joesph and his Staff. Mike oversees one of the great strength programs and facilities in the United States.

Tools

Sport requires year-round training for excellence. Practicing and playing with limited time off heightens the risk of injury. Programs with numerous tools for training allow an athlete to increase strength and remain strong by addressing each issue that may arise.

West Virginia's men's and women's basketball program use many different exercise devices to train their athletes. Having a variety of tools keeps and Gets them Strong.

The Leg Curl Machine

The hamstrings are involved in knee flexion and hip extension. They can be regionally targeted through exercise selection. Having a leg curl machine in your facility is important even if it is used exclusively for rehabilitation or exercising one leg at a time.

Without question the greatest leg curl machine made is the Pendulum Leg Curl. You recognize this as soon as you begin a repitition, immediately the lifter feels there is something unique about this training device.

Illinois Strength

Aaron Hillman, the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Illinois has a vast experience in strength and conditioning, he has coached at Ball State, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Notre Dame, Bowling Green, Michigan and has had stints with the NFL. Aaron has numerous power racks in his facility, but understands the value of tools. Football is an aggressive sport and to participate at the highest level having a wide variety of exercise devices allows a coach to augment his athletes training. 

Not only does having a wide range of equipment allow an athlete to reach his potential, but there are always periods whereby a coach has to address the health of each individual. Athletes may need to reduce the load on the spine, thay may need to change training modalities to accommodate for casts on an appendage or may be undergoing rehabilitation for an injury. Having head and neck machines is important, as well in all programs to keep athletes safe and Get them Strong

Training The Entire Hamstring

The hamstring muscles cross the hip, as well as the knees. Muscles such as these are biarticular, that is, they cross two joints rather than one. Training a hip dominant exercise such as the stiff legged deadlift or an RDL regionally targets a specific portion of the hamstrings. The stiff legged deadlift and the RDL bring the greatest focus and electrical activity on the upper area of the hamstring specifically the upper medial portion. The lying leg curl targets the lower medial portion. By choosing appropriate exercises that specifically develop the upper and the lower sections of biarticular muscles leads to greater muscular adaptation.
